The Board was constituted under the "Water Act" 1926 on June 1927 for the purpose of sinking a new artesian bore and associated surface fittings, and the construction of various drains for stock water.

The Board's current purpose is for the continued maintenance of the bore head installations and pipes that supply water for stock and domestic purposes to thirty five properties, one school and one recreation club within the Kayawanna Bore Water Area and two public stock water facilities on local routes.

The bore and associated works are 32km North of Bungunya, on the Meandarra Road. The Authority has freehold title to the 2.02 ha site. The property description is lot 29 CVN 53.
