In operation since June 1927, the Kaywanna Bore Water Board oversees the operation of the artesian bore and associated surface works for stock and domestic usage. The Kaywanna Bore is situated 32km North of Bungunya, on the Meandarra Road in southern inland Queensland. The aquifer of the scheme is the Gubbermunda Sandstone.
